Singer and actress Natalie Imbruglia is to star in a movie to be made in Adelaide.
With no start date finalised because of Imbruglia's recording schedule, Elise is likely to be made in the next 12 months, Sydney producer Rosemary Blight says.
"We certainly will be making the film in South Australia with Natalie," she said of the performer married to musician Daniel Johns.
"The director (James Bogle) could think of no one else and, fortunately, she fell in love with the work."
Based on Georgia Blain's novel Closed for Winter, which is set in Adelaide, the low-budget film will feature Imbruglia as a woman living in the shadow of her sister, who died 20 years earlier.
Adelaide-based production company Kojo Group will produce Elise, as well as providing technical expertise. "We really wanted to find a partner in SA that could work with us," Ms Blight says about Kojo.
"Every bit of the film that we can make in SA we will be making in SA."
