Masked ball raises £175,000 for End Fistula campaign
March 25, 2008

Music Movement Ambassador Natalie Imbruglia and Sir Richard Branson teamed up with Virgin Unite to host a Venetian masked ball, benefiting Virgin Unite’s End Fistula Campaign. The event, held last Friday at the exclusive Coco Club in Verbier, Switzerland, was sponsored and organized by Virgin Limited Edition's ski retreat, The Lodge.

Guests dig deep to help eradicate life-shattering childbirth injury

Masked revelers bid on a range of fabulous prizes, including a chance to join Natalie on her next visit to Nigeria, a Triumph motorbike, private ski and snowboarding lessons, and fine wine, to name a few.

The £175,000 raised will support Virgin Unite’s joint project with UNFPA underway in northern Nigeria, where 800,000 women suffer from Fistula, a devastating child bearing injury that leaves women incontinent, ashamed and often ostracised from their communities. The project is improving access to obstetric care and education to help prevent new cases, as well as treating women and helping them rebuild their lives.

Natalie amazed at ‘incredible generosity’

Natalie said, “The night has been amazing; people’s generosity has been incredible” I hope that by raising awareness, we can encourage people around the world to make a difference in these women’s lives and help to restore their dignity.”
