Home-bound Imbruglia goes pop
July 28, 2007
Natalie Imbruglia credits "lightening up" and
husband Daniel Johns for her upbeat new pop sound.
Imbruglia is heading home in October to star in her debut Australian film
but first relaunches her music career with Glorious, a compilation
of her hits and five new songs.
In New Jersey to spend some time with Johns, who is on tour with
Silverchair, Imbruglia said she is no longer the "uptight, serious person"
who rose to the top of the world's charts with her debut single Torn.
"I got bored with being miserable," she said, laughing.
"It was time to lighten up. I care less in a good way and it's the best
thing that's happened for my work. "I wanted to do something really pop; I
don't want to be indie, that's not who I am."
With Imbruglia based in London working on
her fourth record and Johns launching Young Modern throughout the
world, they steal weeks where they can to get together. Their recent trip to
Mexico inspired the video for Glorious. "But instead of filming it
in Mexico, I ended up in the California desert in 45C," she said. The
single, which was one of the most added tracks to Australian radio playlists
this week, is released on September 1 and the album on September 8.
Imbruglia returns to Australia to begin
shooting the film Elise in Adelaide in October. "I'm so excited
about it but I can't think about it yet. "I can't wait to come back to
Australia but I have a terrible feeling Daniel will be on tour in Europe
then. We'll see."
